here's the history. I p/u a 94 1.9 Td 275K.
It had a "tick to it. (i posted this previously) Sort of like a louder than normal diesel sound. The most common feedback i got was injectors. The tick has gotten louder over the last 3 weeks (5000kms) I took it to a local garage to replace a bad brake line and when I p/u the car I could feel the tick, now more like a knock, through the clutch pedal. Did another 200 +kms and on the way home started knocking really badly the clutch pedal was really shaking. The car died. I popped the hood got it to run again and saw the whole power train was shaking violently. I towed it home and was told not to try starting it again. Crank pully failure was suggested as I've been talking to a local "guru" and seemingly allround good guy house of diesel.
My Dad and I were talking and he suggested getting the head pulled to see if there was damage to any of the pistons. Fix the crank pulley assuming that's what it is and only what else need to be done and buttoning it up and going from there. the car has run well up until now. fuel economy has never been where it should be and on the last couple hundred k's it didn't seem to have the pull it used to. Please. any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. this is my diley driver and driving my old brick of a pathfinder is not cutting it. Help. help. help. :? :x
Out.

first, see if the timing is out and if indeed the crank pulley issue is the cause of these problems. then you can decide from there what to do to remedy. no sense removing the head to check for damage if the thing is still in correct time.

Is the process the same as on the MK2 ?
I ask because I have the manual for the mk2 and not this mk3. Can I expect most jobs will be the same?

having not dug too deeply into my 1.9TD yet, i can't say for sure, but....
as far as i know the 1.9TD and 1.6TD are very similar other than the 300cc difference and crank bolt...... i don't see why checking the timing would be any different.

After checking the timing I'd check the compression. Don't check compression first incase the timing is off and you damage your engine (more)
