Got the motor out today. This is my first VW (1992 Eco) -- it wasn't that bad of a job.

The trans goes to AATransaxle for a 3.67 R&P.  I have a TD pump that I'm sending to Giles. Also sending him my injectors for rebuild, along with some GTD nozzles from TDTuning.

Downpipe, exhaust, intercooler, are also in the plans. In the meantime, I'm going to replace the CV joints and upgrade the suspension. Any suggestions on struts and springs? I would like to improve the handling somewhat.

Not intending to hijack your thread, but how much is it costing you to change the R&P? Just curious.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread about struts and springs.

It RUNS!

I haven't driven it yet, so I can't comment on the Giles performance mods. But I already notice three things different than before: the motor idles a lot smoother; the start advance bumps rpm up higher; and the motor revs up way faster --  much like a gas engine.

One question: I warmed up the motor to full operating temp and shut it down. Should I do the final 1/4 turn on the stretch bolts before I start it again?

Still have numerous things to do. I'll post pics soon.
