hello all,
i have had this timing belt changed twice so far. the first time was when i purchased the car and did the job to be on the safe side. about 2500km later i bring the car back because is had a loud knocking sound.
they discoverd the timing belt was sliced by 2cm. they replaced and adjusted the timing belt w/o dial as best they coould. 2 weeks later when the engine gets hot on veggie or diesel.
my neighbour who has been working for vw for 25 years decided to give me a had. he fixed the timing problem but notices that the timing belt is sliding out. we notice this on the pump pully (belt not centerd) but on the cam it is centered, on the adjusting bearing tensioner the belt is pullin outward.
he suggested that a replace the stud on the adjusting bearing.
i do not think this is the cam botl because all is perfect there.
has anyone had this problem?
evan
Yup, I made a big post about it some time ago. In my case the IP bracket had gotten tweeked some how. It wasn't visable but I replaced everything one at a time and that is what it was. When I pulled it all apart to replace the ip bracket, the lower ip support bracket bolts were loose :? Might have been the cause of the bracket getting out of shape. Anyway hope that helps.
That was the last thing I tried, previously I had replaced the tensioner, the tensioner stud, the cam pully, then the cam to match the new pully, the IP pully. I figured if the bracket didnt fix it my crank was hooped and it didn't matter anyway, but as we know now it did.
