anyone have a hitch on a mkIII?

i'd like to get a hitch for my '94 jetta. i don't know the recommended max. towing capacity of the vehicle off-hand but i'd like a class 2 hitch that is capable of 3500Ibs.

does anyone have something like this on their mkIII? is there a bolt on solution or should i get a hitch shop to fab this up and weld it on?

i will be towing cars and trailers with car parts... nothing over 3500Ibs but close. i figure when the transmission lets go i'll know what the limit is.

I have one on my jetta. I built it myself because I wanted a 1-1/4" receiver and not the 2 x 5/8" flat bar type. There is only sheet metal behind the axle, so you won't be welding much there... I bolted mine through the inner surface of the 2 rear sheet metal "frame rails". Three 3/8" bolts per side with large fender washers have held it for a couple of years of heavy use, sometimes towing more than would be considered prudent...  

  MacGyver has a bolt-on "hidden hitch" brand hitch. He likes mine better as it's far more hidden... I've looked over his hidden hitch and it appears to be a well constructed unit. It has the flat bar type receiver, not sure of the rating.

Get a Bosal towbar.

They're hard to get in North America, but they're the OEM solution, and when you don't have the swan-neck receiver in, you don't know it's there.
