If this makes it to the US in the diesel version it will be interesting. Uses 3.4 liters of diesel in 100Km.  60mpg in the gasoline version.

i drived a smart forfour and i realy dont liked it, it was a 1.4cdi, i think about 70hp.
i realy dont like the engine about it, i think a fortwo would be even worser.
i ever drived a fortwo as wel, but that was a galoline, but i cant remember it good, was long time ago.

We have them in Canada. It's a 700cc TDI with a very strange tranny. I'll stick to the TD Caddy.

I believe it's a 0.8L CDI (not sure what the exact cc is), not 700cc.

I agree about the transmission.. it's not rough, just shifts very slowly.. a chip update can cut down the transmission shifting time by 30% though.

For $18,000 I'd probably rather find a low mileage VW MK4 TDI. The Smart's fuel economy is not that amazing considering its size.

Or for $18,000 I'd rather import a 1.2L or 1.4L TDI engine from a Polo in EU and swap that into a mint MK1 Rabbit... get at least 70mpg and better performance <3

I agree fully, but a well decorated one is not $18,000, it's $27,000 (at least it is here). And for that you get a miniscule car with NO power and that is an in-city vehicle only. I had one out on the open road, and the effect of sidewinds is absolutely terrorizing. I think this picture says it all.
