Thinking about buying a '93 Golf 1.9 TD: Opinions?
« on: July 11, 2006, 12:55:13 pm »
All,

I've been looking to pick up a TD or TDI for a while now and the situation just arose that I'm looking for a car and a 1993 Golf 1.9 TD went on the market.

Any thoughts on this model?  The drivetrain sounds like it's in good condition (and only 146,000 miles), but I know nothing about that year Golf.

Do those bodies hold up?  Is the suspension good?  Do the electric window regulators go?

Just looking for some feedback as the vehicle is 300 miles from where I live and I'd like to get a better sense of that model before I drive to take it for a test drive.

Thanks,
    Avocado

if its in the states, i'd wonder how it was imported and if it is able to be licensed in your state.

beyond that, yep, great cars... just stay on top of maintenance and fix the crank issue.

the mk3 golf is usually a good solid car ( normal rust apearing around wheel arches & door bottoms, apart from that, suspension is quite good,
parts are reasonably priced now, electrics are poor, and expensive (just try looking for electric window motors) anyway the 1.9 td is a good strong engine, better with service history, but not as fast as the TDI, but less to go wrong with it,    i run a 1993 vw vento 1.9td myself (mk3 golf with boot) and love it, so if you can find a good td cheaply then go for it.
 60mpg cant be bad.
