'94 1.9 td golf 5spd won't start. Help.

OK.  I'm looking at buying the above mentioned car.  
The car won't start.  It sounds slower to turn over like when my started on my 1.6 N/a was near the end.  I didn't try to push start or check electric at IP but connection is good and bubbles move through the fuel line.  I know this is vague but I'm hopeing to have another look at it tonight and give him money so I can get back in a golf:D and out of my brick of a pathfinder .  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wonder if the motor is flooded.  Did you check the oil?  What about the problem with the cranks on this engine?  Is there an easy way of telling if it is that?

I would suspect any 1.9TD with more than 80000km on it that isn't running or quit while running to have a bad crank nose and gear. I would check to see if the pump/cam timing is even close, if not it's likely to need some fairly expensive repairs...

Turns out the battery was no good therfore wouldn't take/hold a charge.  The Fuel shut off sol. was very dirty so I swapped batteries out of my truck took some emmery cloth to the conector and bam she fired right up!  
THis is my first turbo and I like it.
I will be getting the Tbelt swapped shortly as it has 275K on it and I have been told that the crank pully bolt if torqued properly with the right tools and an aftermarket bolt will solve all possible problems.  I'll be "gentle" 'till I get it looked at as I don't forsee myself getting the free time any time soon.
Anyone know of a good shop of back yard VW guy in the ottawa area???

You have been misinformed. At very least I would replace both the pulley and the bolt when you do the timing belt change. I would also recommend a new style harmonic balancer and a one way clutch pulley for the alternator. Mine has lasted 300000km with this setup and a new pulley at each timing belt change. I have never seen any 1.9TD go further than 310000km on the original crank nose. Inspect it carefully while you have it apart, if the pulley has ever been allowed to get even slightly sloppy it will never stay tight, and the crank must be repaired, it's far cheaper to do it early rather than wait until it comes loose and trashes the head.

I'd love to get this done soon but time is at a premium these days and it doesn't look better on the horizon.
Anyone able to recomend a good shop or individual in the ottawa area that is trustworthy and not too deer?
I also would like to get the pump timing checked as there is a tick (louder than normal diesel noise) that goes with engine speed.
Other than that it seems likje a good little car.
