12 psi vs 26 psi
« on: June 25, 2006, 11:07:23 pm »
Well i was at my birthday party minding my own buisness when a friend of mine shows up (darkness_is_spreading) And i went for a ride in his car before and i was fairly impressed. He has a 92 jetta 1.6 td with a heavilt modded fuel pin fuel turned up and a waste gate shut on a k24 and a straight through 2.25 inch exhaust(non intercooled). My car has a 1.6 td intercooled with a port and polished head a giles 12mm pump and a 50 trim turbo running 12 psi. so we headed up to one of the country roads near us (long straight and nothing down it).We lined up and on the third horn we both launch with discusting amounts of smoke pouring out the back of his car and a bit of white smoke off my front tire. He pulls me really hard in first then i hit second and keep pulling and pulled up in fourth to 160 kmh and i was roughly 3 telephone poll lengths ahead of him and shut it down because there was no point on continuing. looking back in my miror i can see no smoke coming form my exhaust and behind him you couldnt see anything including telephone pole lights for a km. It was a fun night.

I seen only a slight amount of smoke at what seemed to be max rev on Smokey Dubs  diesel.

I honestly felt like I was at a stand still when he pulled past me....

The setup and pump are friggn amazing on his car,  and he's only at 12 psi  :D ...

The best part was the trail of smoke,  reminds me of the day at the track except 4 X better....

well if i was satisfied about my 12 psi then yes they would have been cool egts. Now i get them pretty dang high. Tonight i bumped up the fuel and now its running 20 psi and by the end of 4th gear its at 1500 degrees. so next im going to make an oil cooler setup (probably that volvo one)

If you go with the air-oil cooler, it's thinner than the VW cooler.,save yourself a ton of trouble, and get the "pipe" from the Volvo too.  I didn't, and had to buy an expensive tap

Water to oil? (for faster warming up > you may not make turbopressure as long the oil is not warmed up)

I just did my stock oilcooler away (oil/air), and i'm putting a oil/water on it)

The Volvo oil-air unit has a thermostatig bypass open below 100C
I got rid of my oil - water unit after having one piss all my oil onto the street.
that combined with less hoses and removing the possibility of a false head gasket diagnosis have done wonders for my peace of mind.
