installing aftermarket oil sending unit

i jusy got done installing a oil pressure gauge in my 2000 tdi, now my oil factory pressure light comes on because its unpluged, how can i prevent this?

Put in a "T" and install both sending units.

just put it on the oil filter neck. theres a threadded plug there you can remove.

i installed the aftermarket sending unit on the filter neck, there's only one place that i can see of the filter neck to install, i tried putting 12volts to the old wire but the oil pressure light still comes on

If there is only one wire running to the oil sender for the light, then
the wire is ether going to "open" or "grounded" when there is
oil pressure.  Have you tried grounding the wire?

I could not find a T peice, the only thing i could find was at a local speed shop and it was not the correct thread, i did not try grounding the wire, it does have 1 wire going to the unit so i will try that i get write back

I used a dual output VDO sender for mine.  One terminal is an on-off switch for low pressure, the other an analog sender for the new gauge.  Works fine, fits in place of the stock sender:

'82 VW pickup, 1.9D engine, Missing LinkZ shift linkage
