Peugeot 406 2.1TD Engine running fault
« on: June 16, 2006, 03:46:59 am »
A mate has a Pug 406 2.1 TD and it runs great sometimes, but it has developed a idle problem. Sometimes it sits at 1500rpm and raises to 2000rpm and jumps up and down between these values. It also revs straight to 6000rpm on startup. Anyone know anything on this.

It has been into a dealer and no faults (By sensor) came up. They recon it is the Pump (£700)

Engine usually idles about 950rpm to 1000rpm.

Any suggestions

Craig

i think this is a rotordiesel pump, and not a Bosch, Rotordiesel got somethimes just a little bit more or less power. i dont know why... its kind of normal.

500rpm is much, problebly it is something else than i was writing.
i hope other reply's will help you

The engine also revs to 4000rpm then back to 1000rpm up and down. Its like the control of the idle looses its signal and goes to what ever value it wants.

Any more comments/suggestions

I am not an expert but i think your problems could be caused by the fuelpump.  I think it is important to know what kind of pump is fitted. Peugeot often uses a Lucas or a Delphi pump which is different from the Bosch pump Vw uses. (Maybe they function in the same manner?) Also it is important to know if it is a mechanical or electronic pump.
In a mechanical Bosch pump the governor is responsible for the revs at idle I thought. In an electronic one the ECU is responsible for revs at idle i think. Maybe someone else could subscribe this?

Grtz!
