Will the ACH 5th gear go in the large input 16v tranny?
« on: June 12, 2006, 08:00:42 pm »
I am new to this forum and just purchased my first diesel VW, an '85 Jetta 1.6TD.  I am in need of a clutch and in pondering my goals with gear ratios and such, I need to know if my current .745 5th gear in my ACH 020 trans will fit into the larger input shaft 16v 020 trans.  I can get the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and tranny for a good price locally, but I don't like the .91 5th gear and would like to install the .745, if possible.  Can this be done?  Thanks in advance for your help.

I've searched and found a couple of posts that indicated it could be done, but before I go tearing into two tranny's, I'm wondering if all 020 5th gears are interchangable.  The autotech (sp?) website lists different ratio options for the 8v and 16v trannys, so that implies they are somehow not compatible.  I'm not sure if I should proceed.

I have often wondered about the 5th gear cluster from a 5 ganger Quantum/Audi with aratio of 0.51:1 fitting into a TD 4 ganger
