Oil in expansion tank

I know this isn't good but can it be anything else but the headgasket? I searched and it looks like I have no oil cooler above the filter so it can't be that. The engine runs well, starts good and has no water in the oil. As it gets warmer the engine has trouble staying cool but that may be due to the oily coolant. Is there any other possibility? Thanks.

hmm when i was putting in my brand new condensor I looked at my rad... it was disgusting so i cleaned that, and plus the old condensor was jam packed with crud and bent fins (no more overheating
). as for the oil in expansion tank problem, if you have good luck, and an auto tranny, then hopefully its the tranny cooler mixing ATF.

exactly how much oil are we talking about here? tiny droplets, or big puddles at top??? small droplets shouldn't be too bad. Big puddles and watch out for a blown HG soon...
how much boost you running? is it a daily driver, or a racing type car? if its a racing type car, install some raceware studs and 1.9 metal hg and there should be no worries. If its a daily driver, it shouldn't be leaking any oil, unless your hg is on its way.

Dont panic just yet, if you have the oil cooler that sits on top of the oil filter, this is cooled (warmed?!) by the coolant system and often fails. Voila, coolant tank filling with black crud. £32 in U.K. and you need a 27mm socket to get it off. Use an injector socket, it's 27mm. About an hour and half job.
Then use washing powder (not sodium carbonate, not sodium hydroxide, as they WILL dissolve your engine!) and keep changing till the crap's eaten away. Then flush with clean water, then fill with antifreeze.
But your mileage may vary and the heads knackered.

I put a 1.9 gasket on and it seems to be doing good, I think I will put an oil cooler on as it seems to warm up some times and when I changed the oil it looked pretty thick. At least the coolant is clean!
