Hey everyone;
Well, many of you know that my Bunny runs on BioDiesel and apparently, I can't keep that a secret any longer I guess :oops: . I attended a local Environmental Symposium this weekend and gave a short presentation on BioDiesel. As I was doing my 1 litre "Dr. Pepper" batch, the local media descended and wanted to know what the heck I was doing! They proceeded to watch the rest of the demo. and then I got to extoll the virtues of Biodiesel.
This is the result; (I saved it on my own webspace cuz it doesn't stay on the newspaper site):
Stratford Beacon Herald Article
(note the error; apparently we mix veggie oil, lye and METHANE! ha ha ha Oh well, check out the recommended link at the end of the article .)
and here's the pic which was on the front page!

Well done!
I have been running b20 (bought at the pump) for some time now. I recently shortened my commute from the equivalent of 70 litres a week to maybe 20. A more reasonable quantity for home brewing. Your inspiring me!

Sweet! Nice action photo!
I can only imagine what the looks on some of the people's faces around here will be once I start doing that. Just the sight of a Scirocco at the Diesel pump will freak people out. I still get people at least once or twice a week ask me what kind of car it is. It's a Scirocco, man, not a freakin spaceship!
Have there been any follow-ups in the paper?
Nice work!

Very well.
Congrats on your initiative over bio-diesel.
So, 'VW Scully', what alterations do I need to do to my 1989 1.6TD motor (JR) in order to run on bio-diesel (the injector fuel lines are already made of metal) :?: None?!
Could you enlighten me a bit on this matter, as well as the most suitable rate of bio/mineral diesel to use?
P.S.: Forget the cold temperatures.

HP;
Just pour Biodiesel in and GO!
However, to learn more about BioDiesel and even how to make it; go here:

NICE!
Eventually, I'm going to start making bio... I think I'll just make one Dr. Pepper batch per day, and pour it in my tank. That way, I won't have to worry about building an appleseed and all of that stuff... and I'll still be running some bio.

Or you could just make 1l Dr. Pepper batches every day
; then you might eventually get enough for a fillup! ha ha
have fun

Very cool, Scully...congrats!
A quick question...what does one do with the glycerol? I read that it is poured off from the biodiesel, but not what it subsequently done with it. (Same question about the water used to "wash" the biodiesel...)
Thanks! Stan

Currently I just air the glycerol out (to get rid of any excess methanol) and then use it to clean the shop!
I want to start making proper soap out of it, but will worry about that later
. I need to make more fuel this week; I'm almost out! :shock:
Wash water gets reused as much as possible and then you can just dump it in the regular sewers. I haven't started washing yet (I usually let my BioDiesel settle for several months prior to use) but I am going to start washing now so I can use the fuel faster.
