I have put 2800 miles on the jetta, and it always vibrates badly at idle.  I have replaced the right rear mount and have a new front mount that I haven't put on yet.  While under it the other day replacing the shifter rubber bushings I noticed it doesn't have one of those flexible type couplings I see in pictures.  Is this a factory option and would it help the vibrations at idle?

Are these normal vibrations that have just seemed worse lately or is it vibrating because the idle seems to be lower?  That contributes alot to shaking.
Are you sure it's firing on all cylinders?

The vibrations are worst at low idle, and did seem to get better with the one new mount.  I don't have any tach, and they get much worse when the AC compressor comes on.  I need to look at that solinoid to see why it's not working.  But my main question is about the exhaust flex coupler and did VW put one on all diesels?

The coupler I can't help you with, sorry.  Someone else care to chime in?

If your vibrating get's worse with the A/C then it's a idle issue or maybe one of the bearings on one of the pulleys.  possible A/C.

well I can tell you that my car is idling pretty rough.  at least one of my injectors is shot.  At idle I put my fingers on the low pressure diesel line from the injectors and feel for the ping.  The 1st injector has the ping at idle, but with the 2nd one I get nothing, until I rev the engine.  3 + 4 have the diesel ping as well.  I think it's neat feeling that ping, and knowing how often it injects at idle :)

If I dont apply enough diesel when releasing the clutch, the motor will hesitate and get real sluggish and seem like its going to die, but never does.  This is mainly because one injector isn't firing and the stupid thing is running on 3 cyl...   so the injector is just leaking fuel constantly into my motor  :x

I did have a broken motor mount on the vehicle before though, but that made shifting into gear a pain, as the motor would be vibrating when applying a load.

If you think your exhaust system is vibrating, then its probably broken exhaust mani studs.  My 'toilet bowl' for exhaust was leaking but did not really make the car vibrate much at all.

Hope any of this info helps.  Vibrating sux.

For all of us putting the motor in a Suzuki we are all told to include a SS Flex Coupler to reduce vibrations. Even at very low idle and extreme shaking the noise does not transfer to the cab. However if there was ever any noise at highway speeds I would never know it unless something broke off and hit my windshield.  Kinda like when the tension pulley spit out and bounced into the floor board under my foot. That one cost me a bit.
