I'm looking for some info... I'm new to all the VW diesel lingo, but I've been researching & reading a ton of info for the last couple days. I have found plenty of threads on here about running a TDI w/ a mech. injection pump and it seems pretty simple.
I want to swap a 1.9 TDI into a Toyota truck, but I don't want to bother with all the electrical crap that goes with a TDI. The plan is to run a TDI w/ a mechanical pump, probably a Bosch VE. I've heard the VE from a Cummins 4BT should do the job... is this correct? Is there a specific part number for the 4BT pump?
Also, this motor will be powering a 4500lb 4x4 that I'll be using as a DD... I'd like to shoot for 250+ ft/lbs. Any more would be great, as long as reliability isn't sacrificed. How can I get 250 ft/lbs with a mech. injected TDI, a set of larger nozzles and...

I'm not too worried about fabrication, just getting the right parts for the job. I could really use some help, in laymen's terms, as to what parts to use. Let me know if you have any questions for me. Thanks in advance!
you can use an "early" diesel setup,mounts,etc,use an"early" idi turbo pump,and use the pump head from ther "cummins",its a 12mm vs. a stock 9mm,pitch the electronics,,the more i think about it,,for all out power the electgronics would be holding you back anyways,i think.......
You can also use a DI specific pump with the larger shaft, etc. to handle the higher DI injection pressures from a Cummins 4bt without too much in modification. Lots of options...and tuning has a much higher ceiling IMO vs. chip tuning just because of the certain limitations of software and chips available...when you step up into custom mapping programs it starts to get expensive. Mechanical also gives you an old school feel but even more so gives you greater choices in turbos as well

My Samurai has a Toyota tranny and a TDI-M. I bought it from the Czech Republic already converted - the hard part is getting exactly how they made the pump - the basic description is "older 1.9td pump with 1.9TDI internals" - so it should be using the TDI shaft. The motor was 130 hp stock, which should be 230-250 ft lbs of torque.
My conversion is "work in progress"

I did have a 1.9td before, but I'm completly tearing my rig apart and rebuilding it. Toyota axles, custom suspension. Not much suzuki left

But from my experience with the 1.9td, I am sure a TDI would move your Toyota no problem.

This engine swap is for a daily driver I want to build, but I have a '87 Toyota 4Runner that's my rockcrawler. I just 'finished' the build & took it out for the first time last month to Moab.-
