The OEM TDI IC is about 8" x 8" and lives in the left front fender. Air is fed to it by the vent in the front valence. One of these would be the easiest install, most of the piping could be used as well. I opted for a different install. Here is a thread with pics of my installation.

Hey has anyone seen Smog's IC install? He managed to mount it in front the rad (without AC) but when I looked at installing my Merc Vito IC I couldnt see how I could run the pipes to it as the whole front member is one big plastic mould with the rad and fan built into it and has not got a lot of gaps. Pics of his install...

Yours is different than smog's. The north american rad support is steel, the european rad support is plastic. Have a look at
http://www.dieselmeken.se, click on the "Golf III" link. He has a front mount on a european golf. Looks like he just sawed through the plastic rad support to make way for the piping...
Check the "films" while you're there. Impressive stuff for a 1.9TD. I have exchanged e-mails with the owner. No power adders were used to obtain those 1/4 mile times, all diesel!

Zounds, thats a huge IC, Gropar. That must be the volvo one I've heard about. Seems a shame to only run 15psi through that, you should aim higher!
You might try hosting that pic somewhere else though. As it stands, only TDIclub members can view it.

copy the link and paste it in a new window instead of clicking on it. This also works for image station and a few others.

Damn Euros!..Thought I could see bent metal on Smogs but not on mine. Looks like the American version is easyer to work with.
One thing I noticed on Dieselmenken's Golf is the intake manifold. The elbow which lives ontop of the manifold seems to be blocked off and the boost pipe seems to be entering the manifold at the side of it?? not very clear from the pictures though. Looks intresting anyway.
Has anyones thought about using Subaru Impreza's Charge cooler? Its mounted above the engine in OEM position and has minimal boost piping. Its also cooled via a bonnet scoop but Im more intrested in its air-to-water capability. there are two versions, the WRX and STI, even though they look the same Im sure the STI is uprated??
Anyways just rambling.

Yes, the intercooler comes from Volvo.
To fit it in, I had to move the rad a little. I just bent the original brakets a little longer.
I had to cut all of the rad support that went lower than the bumper, the I screwed the top of the intercooler to the rad support. The lower part of the IC holds with two aluminium brakets screwed to tje metal bumper.
As for the piping... it's not done yet. I had to do lots of other things in order to keep the car working, so the IC job got delayed.
Intend on making custom piping with rad hoses on the driverside and to use custom bent exaust piping on the passenger side (to go around all straps and pulleys) in order to save a few(alot!) bucks. One day, if I get rich  I might go for mandrel bent / welded piping...
As I said in a previous post, I intend on using 15psi boost, but with the replies I got, I now think of 18 or 20. But I'm not so shure : it is a daily driver and I want to keep it reliable, and for a long time...
