:?: Will a 1.6 TD fuel pump work on an AAZ 1.9 TD engine :?:
btw, I beg to ask the same, but vice-versa :!:
:?:
The 1.6 and 1.9 pumps are mechanically interchangeable up until the '95 model year. After '95 the 1.9TD pump has a different diameter where it fits through the bracket, a slightly longer shaft and an adjustable pulley instead of slotted mounting holes for timing adjustment. These pumps can still be used on the 1.6TD (and 1.6 pumps can be used on '95 and up 1.9) but you need to swap the whole pump mounting bracket and pulley.
The 1.6TD pump will be set up for slightly lower full power injected quantity (68hp vs 75hp). The 1.6TD pump also has less power potential due to lower camplate lift. Aside from that the engine should run fine.

Correction, the 1.6 pump has the same housing ID as the early 1.9 pumps however the 1.6 pump's housing has a shorter nose than the early 1.9 pump's housing(up to 95).For this one and only reason the pumps cannot be changed. If you were to put the 1.6 pump brackets on the 1.9 you could then use the 1.6 pump on any 1.9(93-97).
Working backwards putting a 1.9 pump on a 1.6 you would have to put the 1.9 pump bracket on the 1.6 for it to work.
My mistake, didn't realize the offset was different on all 1.9 pumps. They kinda look the same when stored in a pile on the floor...
