The 020 tranny is a bit weak, and now I know it first hand.

I'm thinking of a passat td '93 tranny called 02A. I've heard they are a bit tougher.

This kind of mechanical breakdown is fun. It gives you a warm feeling don't it? You know the car have some grunt, this proves it.
