new fast glowplugs and slow glowplug relay compatibility
« on: April 26, 2006, 02:13:34 pm »
as mentioned i purchased glow plugs for my caddy and it has the slow relay. I was given the fast glowplugs and told that the slow glows no longer are available. should i let the relay cycle for its full length or only allow a short cycle and then just start cranking? the job isnt that hard but i sure dont want to burn up a set of glows sooner than normal. regards, tad

i'm pretty sure it just means that the new glowplugs can withstand a faster temperature change, with new metal alloys being used.   The relay is still a slow one though, so I think it will be sending less power to the glowplugs.   I believe you will still need to let it glow as long as your previous ones, but could be wrong...

I'm sure I've seen kits to upgrade to the fast glow system.  Can the relay just be changed and voila?  or does the fuse need to be changed too?
