spool time is no worries the turbine side is a .48 A/r and on the compressor side its a 52 trim. The turbo is a GM8 off of a 6.5l chevy turbo diesel

The turbo looks great.......From my own experience, I previously owned a Callaway turbodiesel and that had a big Rotomaster TO4. The turbo looked very impressive...but in real world it only made 10-12 psi boost with the fuel screw turned way up...serious smoke off boost. The ports were opened up enough that we went thru the gas carb intake match porting it to the head. The engine didn't really make any boost until 2500rpm..after that it was great. It was great on the highway but around town it had alot of lag, By todays standards, I would consider it a dog.
You may want to consider a tdi intake manifold, such as an AAZ or 1Z are nice and no egr valve in the intake tract. This will allow you to port the head even more and you might want to look at a GT turbo...with better, faster spooling wheels. If you're on a buget some Saab 9000 aero's come with a really nice GT/T25 turbo good for 200hp+ on a gas, and it's smaller.
I think 935racer is right without a big pump 10-12mm and/or propane to get the turbo rolling I think you may be dissappointed with the all around performance, but please don't be discouraged. If max hp is what you're after a big turbo is the way to go.

I have used a .48 turbine on a 1.9 and a 1.6, They were both pretty laggy, definately coudl have used a big badass pump, but they still smoked alot until they spooled up. This is why compounds is so desirable quick spool off the line all the way through the rev range. I would definately put a custom cam in there to get that thing spooling sooner. If I remember correctly we were making about 30-35psi of boost on dvst8r's 1.6td with a k24 at about 4 grand mayeb a bit less rpm than that even he may remember better than me. But yeah that thing is gonna smoke like hell to get it to spool, but hey smoke is cool

not go to go off topic here, but is that why when i stomp on the pedal at say 2000rpm and a decent amount of smoke billows out the rear until it gets in between 3000-4000, is because of the turbo needing to spool up first?

yep... I'd recommend getting an EGT gauge to make sure you arent cooking any internal parts while spooling up your turbo. I'd recommend not flooring it until you reach 3000-4000 rpm, unless you have the EGT gauge hooked up and running.

In upper gears 3,4,5 by 2500 - 2750rpm 30psi-35psi, with a stock pump maxed out. I think with a big 12mm pump and some nitrous for when you have a point to prove you will be golden. If you have the budget I would definatly look into a gt series turbo, (esspetially the ball bearing ones) if you want to rock somthing that big, they just spool up so much quicker then anything else.
Hey rock it and report to us, if it doesnt spool up quick enough there are always options. Oh and that turbo should be good for about 240-265hp on a diesel. :wink: Which means you will need at least a tweeked 12mm pump to take full advantage of it. :twisted:

One more thing. You might as well manually block the wastegate closed, as you will Never overspin that turbo, with a 1.6 or 1.9L motor. Also even if you only make 15-20psi with that turbo you will be moving more air then a k24 or t03 at like 35-40psi. :wink:

the reason why im running this turbo is because it was free and in excellent shape. Does anyone have any hp and tq predictions with a 12mm pump tweaked? and what can i do to keep low egts? I am running a beefed up saab 95 intercooler.and might use a nitrous purge to purge it on to my intercooler.

Don't forget water-methanol injection to lower EGTs as well. Not promoting the company I work for as much as trying to improve awareness in general - I had no idea it could drop EGTs by 200-250 degF before I started working for a water-meth kit mfr.
It is popular with the bigger truck guys because it allows them to use higher stages of their programmers and not have to back out of it (or back out as much) with loads on grades, etc.
Any special intercoolers needed for holding together at the higher boost pressures?

well the intercooler is a big but plastic tanked intercooler. So i had to reinforce the tanks. Again the reason why i used it because it was free. I used an epoxy called panel bond and i ran a nice bead around the tank fingers so the dont spread an blow the tanks off.
