Hi,
I have an golf MK1 with a 1.6D (CR) engine and I would like some more power.
I could place a 1.6TD (CY or JR) and boost it up a little. Around 80/90 hp would be enough for me.
But, I am strongly thinking about a 1.7 KY engine and put a turbo on that one.
The 1.7 KY does have oil squirters and is less hot engine then the 1.6TD.
A friend of mine bought a VW T3 with an 1.7 turbo as it is and that drives really good, enough power. I also have a T3 1.6TD so I could always use the engine in my T3 if I want to later on.
But, the idea is to put an KY 1.7TD in my Golf MK1.
I dont have an KY engine so I need to buy one. I found the option to buy a revised KY engine on ebay.
Its an Engine block mounted with oil pump, oil sump, crankshaft, bearings, connecting rods, pistons and cylinder head.
But before I do I would like to so some homework first of what problems I may face.
So I hope someone has some experience with building a KY 1.7 with turbo.
First Questions that I have upfront:
-The KY has never been deliverd in the golf so will it fit? I quess so because 1.6 and 1.7 also fit in a T3.
-What parts from what engine do I need to make it an 1.7 turbo? I assume I can use a lot from a 1.6TD. (but I dont have one)
-What turbo should I use best knowing that a little boost up would be nice.
-Any tips and tricks are welcome.
Thanks in advance!
