Hey guys,
I had a compound turbo aaz built up using a k14 and t4oe that ripped but ended up blowing the motor up. I managed to find an almost new 1z block and head so I'm going to try to build up an mtdi and use my compound turbo setup. I'm looking to make in the area of 200hp. Is the rover pump capable of that or should I start with a 4bt pump.

Rover pump can do that fine. It'll handle higher RPMs than the BT pump will and has a more appropriate advance curve.

on the other end of the spectrum, is a franken-pump built from an AAZ pump and 10mm TDI guts able to hit ~180-200hp? hardware will be an HE221 and race 520 nozzles on a 1Z. currently computer controlled but the chips weren't written for that hardware and i don't want to deal with any of the ECU tuners anymore.
i know that a rover pump is considered the best option now-a-days because not much needs to be done for them to work well, but i missed out on a rover pump for $350 shipped to me... still hoping another cheap one will come up soon... But i already have several 10mm TDI pumps for parts (most of them ran when pulled but leaked badly) as well as one AAZ pump and one 1.6 n/a pump.
There's a post on here somewhere detailing the modifications needed - you'll need to do some welding and fabrication but yeah, you can make a suitable pump. Trying for higher horsepower levels with a smaller plunger isn't the best thing in the world though - you'll have a longer injection duration which is harder on the engine.
