hi guys,
i'm about to create an performance setup on a 1.9td aaz engine and i would like to hear your opinions

so this is the setup:
kkk24 turbo
10/11mm pump
intercooler from tdi90 1z
1.6gtd injectorswhat do u thing of this? would it worth it? i'm open to sugestions
Stick with the AAZ injectors. Nobody has seen any power gains messing with nozzles on the IDI engines. AAZ injectors are taller than 1.6 ones and use a more modern 2 stage injection setup.
What are your plans for the bottom end? We've seen a few failures of rod or main bolts on here over the years with built up AAZ engines.
The TDI intercooler is certainly better than nothing, but they aren't all that great. If you're choosing the K24 I expect you're looking for higher boost levels. The TDI intercoolers are known to pop apart if you feed them too much boost.
The K24 is a pretty dated turbo - they were introduced in the early 1980s meaning it's a '70s design. There's been a lot of progress in turbo design since then. A more modern turbo will spool faster, have more ultimate boost capacity and put less heat in to the discharge air. But if you have the K24 already it will certainly work with an AAZ.

my main idea is to look a "clear" engine, like the most oem possible. i want this build for a daily car so i'm not speeding up all the time just to give some life to the heart

so, dont change the injectors and choose another recent turbo. do u know if the 2056 from mercedes is hard to apply? i would like to keep that ic, does it take some pressure on that turbo?
thank you!
It's really all about your goals and budget. If you want to keep that intercooler then keep your boost below 20 PSI and it'll probably stay together.
What vehicle is this going to be installed in? Turbo selection is a bit of of an art. Vehicle weight is a factor.

Following and dont mean to piggy back your thread but I am also rebuilding an AAZ, in my case to go into a mk1 cabby, it currently has the boost pin mod and a k14 doing roughly 20psi, the turbo compressor blades are looking rough though.. I am looking for a reliable car for long ish road trips and still have some power for pulls, would you get a new core for the K14 or what more recent turbo would you suggest?
I did the same setup almost 7 years ago for my 1981 Caddy. I used a Garrett T3 (like a K24) running about 20psi, a Giles pump (Performance Diesel Injection) with AAZ injectors. I used ARP bolts/studs throughout and ported the head. I used a 3" custom downpipe and a 2.25" exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler. I didn't use a intercooler till it was broken in, then used a Saab Blackstone cooler (similar to the TDI cooler. Be sure to use a HEALTHY clutch as these motors are torquemonsters. I couldn't be happier with the setup.
