I'd peek at the lifters before I run it much more... if they go up and down when you turn it by hand, they might be ok.
im back in the workshop on sunday, so ill crack em one by one with the motor running. one of the injectors, 4th if facing engine, has a fair amount of sealent on it! someone also recommended removing the aux belt and running it? anything else i can try on sunday? got the whole day to work on it! anyone in london wanna come have a look? i make a banging bacon sarnie!
Sealant all over the injector? Sounds like someone tried to "fix" something already...
I wouldn't be surprised if the goop-covered injector tries to unscrew itself in the middle when you try and loosen the hard line.

right. just started her up, and cracked the injectors one by one. to my ear it sounds like the knocking goes away when i undo the 3rd injector from the left when facing the engine. now what? ive only owned this pos for about 6 weeks and its spent 3 off the road!!
That pretty much confirms that you need your injectors rebuilt. The knocking sound is caused by the injector leaking fuel before it is supposed to. If left like that it can cause engine damage.

got the lump stripped down. there was no rings on the third piston!! it was rattling around in the bore! so having a full rebuild, managed to source a block, piston etc.
Props to ya for hanging in... lotta folks would walk away.
i hate giving up. this motor is gonna be reliable as *** and good for years to come!
the caddys back with a fully rebuilt motor and nos bottom end! everything has been replaced and it starts and runs. other than some new electrical issues, it starts ok, but still isnt quite running right. ive fitted an egt gauge from stack, so i can monitor temps, and waiting on an oil pressure gauge. can someone point me in the direction of a guide to reset the pump to standard fuelling?
