Hey all , replacing the windshield seal in our 1981 Caddy , when we removed the old window and seal , there were metal strips on the pinch weld area with little teeth ? do these go back on before the new seal ?

I swapped my glass for a better one, because it was free. I carefully pulled the rubber loose to see if I could save it. I did. All but one of the metal things stayed in place. I put the other glass in the seal and put it in. The metal teeth made it easy to do that last gasket fitting as it sort of snaps up over them. I don't see it fitting correctly without them.
