I have an '86 1.6NA. I've had a pump leak for a while and finally splurged to get a Giles pump and rebuilt injectors.
I also have an oil leak from multiple places (or at least there a multiple spots on garage floor). Are there any oil seals that are easier access with the pump, timing belt, etc off? Are there any other maintenance items I should take care of at the same time?

While you have the pump out of the way I would pull all the Glow Plugs and see if they are worn or shot. Then I would wire each up individually and throw that buss bar out altogether.
I would also check on the IP bracket to make sure it isn't worn where the pump bolts up and make sure it is tight to the engine.
I think that without the pump in the way you have a better shot at the water pump and hoses so I would be for cleaning that part of the engine block and checking the soundness of those old hoses.
As for oil leaks the big one always seems to be the valve cover up near the cam pulley. That little horseshoe looking piece needs to be secured with a couple of quick dabs of some sort of sealant that can take the heat and oil. How about the straightness of the cover itself? Many a time I have gone to replace a gasket only to find the owner has pulled the nuts too tight on the cover and they are digging through the gasket at those connection places.
If you are getting a new pump are you replacing the fuel lines and those smaller hoses between the injectors with some clear lines? We like to be able to see fuel or air in those and that black stuff is sort of hard to see through to do that.
Those would be my short list.

I'd also change the cam, crank and im shaft gaskets and seals (crank has a gasket and seal, cam has seal, im shaft has a seal and a rubber ring gasket, seals are the same between the 3 shafts) if you have leaks. They are all pretty easy to replace with the belt off. Make sure to install a new crank bolt and possibly the sprocket if it shows any kind of wear in the keyway.
I would also take the time to give the engine a good cleaning with the pump and belt/timing covers out of the way. Easy-off oven cleaner works amazing at dissolving grease, dirt and oil but can damage the finish on aluminum if you leave it on too long. I just spray on a healthy coat then hit it with an old tooth brush and rinse off and repeat as many times as necessary without letting it soak on very long. It literally makes your block look brand new without much effort. Way better then engine cleaner or degreaser... Wear rubber gloves fyi, that *** will melt your skin lol.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think of water pump or seals. I will do seals for sure...water pump may have to wait....
My engine is a mess from running veggie oil and leaking pump. I plan on taking car to self car wash so i can use engine clean and pressure washer before repairs. The problem is to do the repairs, i will be doing it curbside on blacktop (no garage space at the moment). What do people do to keep grease/easy-off from screwing up blacktop running down the gutter?

If you are not putting too much liquid on the ground you could spread out a garbage bag or two and coat them with a couple of inches of cat litter. Buy the cheapest you can. It really is mostly clay and will absorb the oil and cleaner. If it gets really soupy then scoop it off the plastic and throw another dry layer down. If you can jack up the car and put a really big shallow pan under it that would do better. Most folks don't have a 3 foot by 4 foot pan.

Could always throw a tarp down and a bunch of cardboard as well. I cleaned my engine with easy-off at the car wash and was able to get it pretty clean. If you get everything as good as you can before you take it apart it shouldnt be that big of a job when the time comes. Easy off would probably allow for the use of less water vs an engine cleaner. I've always found engine cleaners need time to soak, lots of scrubbing and lots of rinsing and applications. Easy-off literally makes the oil and grime bubble off the surface almost instantly and mostly just rinses away. Heavy build-up needs a bit of scrubbing but its mostly quite effortless. The stuff is amazing! A spray bottle with water or a bucket and cup would also cut down on the soup vs a hose.

I assume you're changing the timing belt and tensioner...

Yes. Timing belt and tensioner will be replace...
Regarding easy-off, is there any trouble with rubber hoses or plastic.. Engine cleaners can usually be sprayed on everything. And what about a warm engine? If I go to a car wash the engine will be at best warm if not hot.

I sprayed it everywhere on my golf with a hot engine, just hold your breath as you spray it as the fumes from it are pretty nasty. The plastic ended up looking new after. I cant say for sure if it damaged the plastic long term but it doesnt look or feel like it has any problems right now.
I'll grab a pic of my engine bay tomorrow and you can see what it does to aluminum if you leave it on too long. My engine bay was pretty nasty when I got the car, I think there was a pretty large oil and exhaust leak at some point as there was soot and oil everywhere. You couldnt touch anywhere without getting black soot all over your hands. Get the regular non-scented easy off that says not to use on stainless steel or aluminum on the back label.
This is how the engine I swapped into my truck turned out with very little effort. It was pretty nasty before I cleaned it
Oh it will eat the glossy finish of the valve cover as well so try and avoid getting it on that if you care. it wont eat the paint just the clearcoat.
