i went through a course today with napa about the powerstroke in fords.  i think the power numbers from these motors is very good.  but all the parts for it are expensive, and the way the instructor made it sound, there are alot of parts in these motors that are very unreliable.  i kind of liked being through this course  because they also show the profit involved for shops working on these trucks, so you can see where they're porking ur corn hole.  but really any work involved with the injectors will end up costing well into the thousands, not to mention the injectors are an outlet for the meeting of 3 engine fluids which are the coolant oil and fuel.  pretty neat course, but boy i would never even consider buying one of these trucks after i saw all this.  whats everyoen elses thoughts?

A few are lemond right off the showroom floor, But a few fleet operators I have talked to are very happy with theirs.  I also saw one that bends a a new set of tie rods every time he launches in 4x4 at the strip. Around 1600 Lb tq.
As for me, Ill be happy with my car if it ever beats a stock one in a fair race.

it shouldn't take too much they only run like 17-18's stock, the instructor that was there had 150 extra hp and he was only running 16's

They are decent motors when they run right.Repairs,diagnostics,parts,etc are a nightmare,way overcomplicated.

I'll take my Cummins any day over a PS.

Ford also screwed up,as they got involved and cheapened up a lot of parts,and decided to write their own software for the motors they get from International.International has had much fewer problems with their motors.

My old eco waked a 6.0 one day....hardly did it but the 6.0 had nothing left. Pritty even getting up to about 100 than the 6.0 stoped going.

But I would take my cummins any day. Untill they figure out their problems I'm not gettin one. And I dont think that the new 6.7 Twin turbo is going to fix their problems. Boar out the 6.0 and put on a second turbo isn't going to fix their problems.

I'll stick w my "old" 7.3 idi's in my van....   I don't need valve cover gaskets w 110 volts running through them..... :shock:

the stroke is a joke,but seriously,who taught you this "course"??? we have this guy out here in ohio,i cant remember his last name,but his first name is bruce,he is a "guru".. he said the new 6.0 is more turdy than the 7.3,it hasa lot of brazed metal tubes inside for oil feeds and crap,wait till those start fracturing,,isee alot of injector problems, at 225 each,sucks for that guy who fried all8 with gasoline,,,ebp sensors(a pressure sensor shouldnt cost 100-120$),,theyare getting too crazy with all the electronic capabilitys,its a car/truck,why does it need more tech. in it than our first space traveling  machines like apollo,etc???yea keep yer old school 7.3,,they did make a 7.3 idi turbo for 1.5 years,try to find one of those,or get the kit  to drop in a 5.9 slummins(please use a mech. engine)in yer ford/chev!!!

We have a PS F350 pick-up at the job, always at the garage.., injectors problem, turbo, etc.. but perhaps it's just a lemon.. They are coming with a new 6 liters if my memory serve me right..

I better love my Cummins.. :wink:

Ford has been using the new 6.0L PS for a few years now.They have been nothing but problems.

i like the way they run when they work properly. they are more aggressive on the turbo than the 7.3 was. but i think they goofed up getting rid of the 7.3. all the quircks were getting fixed than bam new stuff. now the twin turbo will have more crap to go bad. this is not a powerstroke bashing site but i will keep to my 96 ram diesel and hope perkins never gets a contract with dodge for engines.i can start my truck with a cable if i want to and my jetta no computers to crap out just proven stuff for 25 years.
i pulled my dodge for 5 years and with a slead on the hook i had a 50 psi boost guage burried did over 90 mph in the 1/4 but with no posi rear i could not go wide open fast till fifth gear with 33" tires. 15.85 best wide open at 93.3 with a crap 2.54 60ft then the last power up i could not dump it in third or fourth or massive black stripe and backed it up 15.95 at 88 mph. was fun.

i don't remember the guys name at all, but he was really weird.  like a few people had some comments on him, and he kept saying weird stuff like,  and here is the good ole, but he called everything the good ole "whateverthenameofitwas"  maybe it's the same guy, he was from ohio.

it's hard for me to say, but tomorrow my mommy is gonna get the guys name since she works at napa, well i do too, but shes like up in the office and i am a minion of the shelves and counter and stuff. anyway, he definetly knew what he was talking about, but he seemed really weird to me, and i heard some talk that he had alot of sexual comment at the first class, and i took the second one where he was asked to tone it down.  but i dunno.
