No, it's not a Volkswagen. The Loremo LS is a minimalist 4-seater which gets 150+ MPG from its 2-cyl turbodiesel. No word on if it will be sold in North America, but the base price is only $13,200 in Europe at today's conversion rate.

Move over, gas guzzlers!

That thing's sweet.  For comparison purposes, I wonder what fuel economy a Smart CDI gets?

IIRC, I think I read that the Smart CDI gets about 90 mpg. Not bad, but not in the the 150-range.

Anybody got a more reliable number?

Got to be the combination of low weight + very low aerod drag, and as well all know

small engines running unthrottled at full torque are producing their best specific consumptions (as a broad approximation to the facts)  :P

Whether this will really take off or not is the question...  :?: peeps are still buying big SUVs and 4x4s here in the UK - just for running the kids to school - a sort of over-protectionism gone mad, together with status and I have to admit, ease of getting in and out of them.

Mind you, these and equivalents from other marques have become very popular too over here...

Dinky little things that sit upright, but are small and give great mpg
