Pot tester/injector tester questions..
« on: April 11, 2006, 02:45:53 pm »
So, I run a small garage, Diesels in the UK are a black art and whenever a normal garage has a problem with a Diesel they send it to one of the Diesel specialists dotted about.
I got bored of removing injectors, driving for 1/2 hour, getting them tested and then bringing them back.
So, I bought a pot tester to save me time and to sort out the pile of injectors I seem to have accumulated!
Reading instructions it says not to use Diesel as a test fluid, but to use some proper test fluid for the job, being the brilliant instructions they are it doesn't tell you what to use!
Any pointers?
Cheers!
Simon.

That seems strange; how can an injector be optimally tested with anything other than the fluid that you are going to be running? Even if it's Rapeseed/Canola?.... Unless... it simulates hot diesel  :!:  Maybe add 10% parafin then :?:
Sounds like a scam to sell some proprietry fluid to me. (Except you have no indication of what it is :()
Ah here in England pump/injector/diesel knowledge is kept secret. Only answers I ever got was either "we don't know" or "that's info paid for under licence"...

The Diesel guys aren't very forthcoming with information, and they seem to be a dying breed too!
Thought I would get my hand in and atleast learn some stuff with the pot tester, thing is no one wants to sell you any spares!
Nightmare, can't get any information from local suppliers it's properly bad! it's like theres some form of conspiracy!

Have you had any experience with the Bosch injectors from GSF that are at sensible money?
Can get recon GTD ones for a shade over £100, in Bosch boxes. Done in Turkey I think.
I've only fitted one set to a AAZ and the guy loves them!

I work for a fuel dispenser manufacturer.  We have historically used Varsol to do leak/flow rate testing.  But that may simulate gasoline instead of diesel  .  Just a thought though.

hey guys
the last time I went to see Giles, and had my gtd nozzles set up he was using a "calibrating fluid" dont know exactly what that is, but I believe that it is preferred because it is non flammable.
Giles feel free to jump in.

Got some more info, yep, Shell do some "calibration fluid". Sounds expensive!
If it's okay to use Diesel then thats what I will do, infact did today and it worked well.
Out of 8 injectors tested one was good! 4 I was going to sell to a customer, glad I didn't now, saved me already that tool!
