1983 Sunroof Rabbit coupe LS- Yay or Nay
« on: September 14, 2016, 07:12:46 am »
So I've been eyeing up this 83 coupe for a while. Its an LS with a factory sunroof plus its a 2 door! Could it get any cooler? Its sitting on GTI wheels, and is coming with a whole pile of extra parts. It runs well, drives, and stops fine. Its a 5 speed with a 1.6n/a. Its coming with 2 1.6 longblocks/complete engines, a 4 speed trans, 5 speed trans, a set of mk2 steelies, and a few injection pumps and some other miscellaneous parts. Its pretty solid, with a good looking interior and decent paint. The headliner got pulled out and the sunroof has been siliconed shut, but I'll buy new seals.
It's $1300 plus shipping.
What does everyone think?

busman,  I have nearly this same rig as an 81.  Two door, sunroof, same snowflake wheels but much more like a GTI inside as I did the Recaro seats and stuff as a console.

From what I see this one was cared for.  I am not sure about the hood pins but the seats and carpet look great for their age.  The knee busters are there covering up the underdash and you generally don't see those.

I have that same front underpan on my car.  I think it looks and runs better than the stock version.  With all the extras thrown at you I would say you are getting a deal.  However, I think you will be looking at repairs.  The sunroof is so nice to have working.  When I bought my car the guy warned me not to open it.  He said if I did it would leak.  What he didn't know is that the four drainholes and tubing to the outside were shot after 30 years and in an afternoon I had that fix.  Easy when you don't have a roof liner.  I found simple fabric from JoAnns fabric makes a fine headliner and all you need to do is enjoy the smell of contact cement for the entire time you are getting it up.

Maybe you should just get on a bus and drive it home.  That shipping cost is going to just deplete the funds you need to do repairs.

My nickels worth.

Without pictures of the pinch welds under the doors or an idea of what the area where the rear beam bolts on looks like; it's hard to tell how good of a deal it is.
