Mods for 1.9TD
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:27:45 pm »
hi guys, i'm new here and sorry if my english is not correct  :D
i own an mk3 with an aaz engine and i already have increased the pressure of the turbo (k14) and the fuel of pump.
so, i want to know if u guys recommend switch the boost pin for the 1.6 and if a new intake manifold (from a tdi engine) would give some "life" to the engine.

The 1.6 boost pin is a good upgrade. I wouldn't bother changing the intake though. Adding an intercooler would be a much better plan of action that would give you results.

Assuming your T3 is from a VW diesel it should be bolt up to the manifold OK. The K14 is actually a pretty good turbo though - unless you are planning to run over 18-20 PSI the K14 might be a better choice.

isnt there a thread of porting and polishing a 1.6 intake manfold. and intake runners? i dont know adjustments, differences for a 1.9 manifold/runners.

As VBCGuy mentioned, the K14 is decent if you're running moderate boost.  If you want to switch to a T3 it will bolt up to the manifold and downpipe.  The oil supply is the same fitting.  The oil return is different (you'd have to go custom).  The compressor inlet is a different size.  The compressor outlet is the same.  I'm not sure if the compressor scroll will hit the AAZ intake manifold.  You might need to grind the intake a bit.

for the return you can combine the t3 and k14 returns by cutting the crimps off and remove the "flex" part from both returns, then use the banjo bolt barb thing that goes on the back of the block, and the hard metal tube that bolts directly to the t3 turbo and connect them with a piece of hose.  the intake manifold takes a little grinding to make the t3 compressor fit, the t3 can produce more peak power, but over all it is a really antiquated inefficient turbo.  it doesn't take much work to swap them though, so you could see which one you like best.

I don't think there is much benefit to be had playing with the stock manifold. It's not the best design and biases 2 of the cylinders. Ideally you would get a better intake. If you want to port something do the head.

I did not understand very well what do you mean there, what do you suggest?
