gov mod gone wrong...
« on: April 10, 2006, 05:23:37 pm »
so i did the gov mod and put on a new gov head assembly from a pump with an LDA on it onto an eco diesel. when i start the car it revs out of control. i marked the throttle linkage and gov but i think i may have put the gov back on 360 degrees off. i didnt have time to pull it back off and check it out. does anyone think that is it?

Something can't be 360 degrees off.  that just doesnt make sense.  It sounds like to me you need to play around with your max fuel and idle screw a bit, to get those revs down.

What did the gov head assembly the LDA come from?
 They aren't all created equal.
The little finger that hangs down from the LDA broke on my VW TD pump.
I went to the bosch guy, he had a stack of VE tops with the LDAs on them.
He couldn't find one like mine.
On all the others, the finger came down on the wrong side of the pump, they weren't Vw pumps.

When I did the gov mod and started the car, rpm went sky high......I just backed out the max fuel screw 2 turns, restartet engine and adjustet to 1250rpm....then turned down rpm to normal (950-1000) with the idle screw(s). You may have to turn out the residual fuel screw as well.

Try than first before you take up your pump again.

i backed out the fuel screw and it helped but once it gets running for about 1 or 2 seconds it starts to climb again. is that the residual fuel causing probs?

no, I think you have to back out the max fuel a bit more......but if you rev your engine and rpm wont come down again you have to adjust rf screw.

Sounds like residual fuel to me... I have done this mod, at least 20 times probably more. Often even if you put it back in the exact same spline the residual fueling still needs to be adjusted. I rarley have to move the max fuel screw more then a half turn out and never more then a turn. It always seems to be the residual fueling that makes the differnce. Just my experiance yours may differ.

DVST8R is probably(that is not spelled right!?) right, I did see that i have adjustet my residual screw all the way out and even grinded a little on the leveler to clear the lda housing.....and still its not returning like it did before the mod. :)

I need to think before I "speak"

heres a tip,,,i remmeber rabbittree got a gov. mod gone wrong,,it ran away,,i think he even pulled solenoid wire off,,kept running,,thats why when im nervous about the restart, and a runaway,,,remove intake hose, and get a small book or somethin,,chunk of metal to choke the air off in case of a runaway,,slam the book over the intake ,,,already had to do this on the tdi,i had the idle too high, ,,,but then i have a remote starter button,so i can start car under hood,,just pull wire off pump,to shutdown,,but if runaway occurs,,, you are there to choke the intake,,not sitting in the seat with your key in your hand, goin wtf,its still running,,,,,,,boom
