I apologize in advance... I'm sure this topic has been covered ad nauseum but I can't find it. So if one of you guys would be kind enough to clue me in or point me in the right direction I'd be much obliged!
I have a newer AAZ in my '87 DIY DOKA. Internally the engine is box stock except of head studs instead of bolts.  I recently swapped on a K14 turbo and am running a water to air intercooler. The injection pump is a rebuilt unit off a 1.6td. The turbo puts out just under 20 of boost.
Someone has suggested I swap the "injector pump head" from an 11mm TDI pump onto the IDI pump.
That all sounds relatively easy...
Is it?
With that mod alone might I be able to squeeze another 30 or 40 hp out of the AAZ engine?
I've read some threads that say:
-the injectors need to be larger, and others that say the AAZ injectors are already big enough.
-the TDI pump head is incompatible with the 1.6TD pump.
-while the TDI pump head will run on the IDI pump the differences in power will be negligible.
I'm hoping somebody on here has done this and has the answers I'm looking for.

If it doesn't fit force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!

Have you read the how to get more power from your 1.6td?
http://vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php/topic,645.0.html there's a few easy mods you can do for more power, but if you want the most possible just send it to Giles for a rebuild.

You're aaz injectors are plenty big enough, all your power will come from pump mods and the amount of boost necessary to keep egt in check.

I wouldn't, simply because they are 2 totally different injection systems. Get a proper AAZ pump and have it rebuilt for your application by these guys. You'll be glad you did.

    America, DUCK YEAH!!!
there is actually an aaz faq.  the only real difference is that the aaz has a crappy boost pin which would be swapped to a 1.6td pin or modified.

AAZ has a totally different cam plate in the pump, different ramp shape with a different amount of total lift. The advance curve is different too, though not in a positive way.

yes thats all true but adjustments are all the same,  the parts pertinent to making it a faster car are the same as a 1.6td other than the boost pin
