Bought another one.
« on: December 10, 2015, 02:01:07 am »
Hey everyone, I just picked up an 2002 jetta TDI (which I believe to be an ASZ engine.) To go with my 1980 Rabbit diesel custom.

But anyway, I just got it started yesterday, the fuel lines had to be purged.
Just a few hours ago, I had my brother look it over, and he said I probably won't need to replace the clutch any time soon like the guy I bought it from was thinking it needed. But he does suggest I switch it to a single mass clutch and flywheel setup later on.

So what is left to do is, try and free up the shifter cable, if not replace it.
Replace the cam shaft seal.
Get a glowplug relay.
change timing belt and accessory belt.
And Weld a new exhaust hanger on the muffler.

So far I'm pretty excited about this car. The best part is, I only paid $730 for it :)

I'll try and get pictures of it tomorrow.

Link to pictures of my jetta and my Rabbit.https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10204686759437099&id=1479495721

By the way, my brother is a mechanic.
He does work mostly on VAG vehicles, and owns a lot of VW's, all of the VW's in the pictures (beside the Rabbit and the green jetta,) are his, he has about 5 more that aren't shown in the pictures. :)

You'll save yourself a lot of trouble if you go with a 99 and older TDI instead. It will bolt in using the existing mounts. Depending on your location you probably have an ALH.

I'm not trying to swap this engine into my Rabbit, that's not what I'm trying to do. I'm keeping the engines in what they are already mounted in.

But even if I wanted to, that wouldn't be a problem, I'm a welder, and my brother is a metal shaper.... But that's not what I'm doing... This time hahahaha
