Turbo drain fitting

My drain plug on My pan sits directly over the axle and it's extremely difficult to change the oil. It actually involves loosening the motor mounts and jacking up the engine and it also includes getting my axle covered in oil. I've got a new pan with the plug in a different location but it doesn't Have a turbo drain line fitting on it. Does anyone know if the original fitting is welded to the pan or if it's threaded and a sandwich fit with a lot. Basically do I need to order any parts to swap the drain onto the new pan?

On the engines with the return on the pan, it is welded to the pan.

Which engine do you have and what car is it in?

OK. Yep, the factory return was welded to the pan on the 1.6. You'll have to get a bit of steel tubing welded on to your new pan.

Any idea on the size and thread pitch of the original fitting?

I misspoke when I said it was threaded, I believe it actually is just a steel tube welded to the pan.

I meant the threaded part the drain bolts into. Might just cut it off and weld it to the new tank

Since it is custom already, not a NOS show piece, you could buy an elbow and weld that on. It is really not needed to be threaded, I welded a JIC 10 elbow and attach a barbed fitting on mine with a couple hose clamps for security. IIRC the stock pan fitting is 22mm 1.0 or 1.5 thread. It could be 24mm, if you search enough I know we have a definite answer on it somewhere.

It might be easier to just relocated the oil drain on your current pan rather than messing with the turbo return.
