Crud inside the crankshaft flange 1.6D
« on: October 18, 2015, 09:11:50 am »
So I was cleaning off the CS flange area (where the clutch goes) and sprayed the bolt holes with cleaner , then realized the holes go all the way through into the crankcase.    I basically sprayed a good bit of grease/dirt/sand into the inside of the CS flange on accident.      Should I remove the oil pan and try to get it out,  or not worry about and hope the filter catches that crud?

I'd keep flushing it with brake cleaner then just change the oil when your happy it's clean enough. Or your paranoid about it dropping the pan and making sure you've got it all out if good piece of mind.

Thanks.
I already installed the clutch so I can't spray it more,  and I'll have to wait till after the engines back in to drop the pan (its sitting on a trolly jack).   Maybe I'll just spin it over a little and then change the oil.
If I do drop the pan,  can spraying brake cleaner inside that area cause damage to the crankshaft seal?

Edit:  I took the pan off and, to answer my own question,  it is not possible to spray anything in that area.    To much stuff in the way (crankshaft, bearings, ect,   Dropping the pan to try to spray the crud off was not worth it.

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure seals are resistant to solvents
