I just picked up this 1986 deluxe jetta 1.6 today for $750 off of craigslist. The interior is in fantastic shape but I will need to do some work on it! Any specific struts/shocks I should look at?

Bilstein is my go to for shocks. Depends what you are looking for though. Cheap? Soft? Firm? Stability during cornering or floaty on the interstate?

2nd for bilsteins, try tire rack; they can easily last 8-10years, maybe get as much as 120kmiles on them, that means theyll go thru 3sets of tires, on the fourth, swap out new ones, align,etc. i get real good performance from mine.
