Opinions on local engine deal
« on: October 05, 2015, 04:47:33 pm »
So here locally i can snag a disassembled AHU for $1200. Supposedly it is in spec enough to be re ringed and reuse the pistons, and comes with the $1000 parts place gasket kit. He said a machine shop checked it all but that is all arbitrary. As i plan to go mTDI it doesn't come with an injection pump turbo or intake.... Thoughts? Its several hours away so if it isn't as advertised i'm screwed... After typing this i feel like i already talked myself out of it but i am unsure of the availability of these and if this a no brainer.

Here is the craigslist ad

I paid about $800 for my AHU complete. I then sold all the electronic stuff I wasn't using and got another few hundred $$ back...

Nice, good to know. If i could lay eyes on this engine i would feel a little better, but there may be too many unknowns for me to feel comfortable. I think i will continue to look locally.
