Newbie.....guidance needed on VW selection
« on: August 20, 2015, 10:09:19 pm »
Hello all!

New to the site.  Looking around here and found this to be great place for VW diesel info.  My experience with diesels has been with two EXCELLENT truck engines.  The Ford 7.3L  ;D and Cummins 5.9L ;D

My 2012 Scion XB is going to my 16yo son and I do not want to use my current one ton truck (gasser that is used for towing a 5er and boat) as a daily driver.

So, now I'm looking for a daily driver that is not too expensive, very reliable, safe, gets great MPG.

What are your thoughts on these vehicles and what are pro/cons with the 2015 VW clean diesels, as I know nothing about them. For those of you that do know the tow truck engines mentioned....How do the VW diesels compare, in terms of reliability, durability, longevity, and resale?

Here is my short list that includes gassers:

included MPG, price, and current financing incentives

2015 Toyota Corolla Eco gas: 25c/34h mpg.....$22,825 starting 0%/60 mos

2015 VW Jetta gas: 25c/34h mpg.....$17,325 starting 0%/60 mos+$1000 cash back

2015 Jetta clean diesel: 31c/46h mpg.....$21,640 starting 0%/72mos

2015 VW Golf Sportwagon gas: 25c/36h mpg.....$21,395 starting 0.9%/72mos

2015 VW Golf Sportwagon clean diesel: 31c/43h mpg.....$24,595 starting 0.9%/72mos

Im not too sure on the New Vw's but I can whole heart-idly recommend any MK2 diesel that has been taken care of  ;D  They are old and require a bit of work now and again but are simple, reliable and most mechanical parts can be found fairly easily.

you know,,i was thinking the same thing, a couple of things for an older car/model, body/chassis condition, other than that you can, that is if you can do the work, is mechanics--engine, suspension, brakes, and stuff like that, and maintaining them isnt too hard when you get it under your belt, tools and manual a must.
