1996 Passat TDI - $3900 - (Charlotte NC)
« on: June 15, 2015, 09:04:00 AM »
215K miles, black with tan and black interior.  This is a one family owned car. My father bought it new in 1996. I bought it from him in 2010. It won't get you there fast, but it will get you there with less money out of your pocket for fuel. In the last year, I have gotten between 39-43 mpg. I have tracked the mileage with an app for the last year and I can show you. My work trip is 10 miles of interstate and 10 miles off interstate so this is a pretty good average. I have changed the oil every 3K-4K miles which is also tracked on the app. The recent work done to the car are as follows:

Right rear wheel bearing, left and right outer tie rod, right ball joint, control arm (for TT), sway bar end link, new front rotors -- 6/15, 215K
 Front struts -- 12/14, 210K
 New tires and 4 wheel alignment -- 12/14, 210K
 Fuel pump rebuilt -- 11/14, 209K
 CV axel, driver side -- 10/14, 208K
 Complete new AC system ($910) -- 5/14, 201K
Replace power steeling pump and rack -- 3/14, 198
Timing belt, head gasket, water pump -- 3/12, 163K

The windshield was replaced in the last 6 months as well after a rock hit it while I was driving. I had all 4 aluminum wheels check and 3 straighten before getting the last set of tires. There are no leaks on the car. I have most if not all of the service records for the 5 years I have had the car. I am happy to show them to you and you are welcome to contact the 2 shops that I have used. This is a great running car and the shops will confirm that. One of the shops I use has a guy that is a TDI guru. When some shops didn't want to touch my car when the fuel pump starting leaking and others wanted to charge me $1200+ to send it off to rebuild it, this guy rebuilt it for $200 and I had it back in less than a week. He also bumped up the timing so it would have a little more power and it only affected the fuel economy by 2-3 mpg. He drives a VW with the same engine so that says something. I highly recommend him. The car was recently professionally detailed including having the paint buffed and looks great. I can give you their contact information as well. The car has never been wrecked. There are a few minor dings and some paint that has flaked off of the molding on the driver side but the car is in great shape for 20 years old. This is a manual 5 speed transmission which was the only transmission offered then. The AC being 1 year old works great. I replaced the fan blower motor about 2 years ago. It has the factory stereo in it, but I replaced all 4 of the 6.5" speakers last year. I am also a non smoker.

I am selling the car because I wanted to upgrade. I like this car so much I bought a 2012 Passat. The car has a clean title in my hand. I will only accept cash or certified bank check (and we go to the bank to cash it) and in person. Please contact me if interested and I will be happy to send pictures or a link to Craigslist.
