AAZ value in the states?

Well I stumbled on a complete mk3 jetta that was imported when the owner moved to the states. It's cheap... I plan on buying it regardless... what I'm trying to figure out is whether it makes more sense to keep the car whole or use the motor in my caddy and part the rest of the car out? I realize this is a question with no right answer, just looking for input.

There's nothing that would make me really want to keep the car in one piece - it's not really "collectible" or anything like that. It was an economy engine usually found in low trim package cars. A TDI Mk3 is a "better" car if you want to look at diesel Mk3 vehicles that you might want to keep in one piece.

Yank the AAZ and give it a good home!

That's what I'm thinking. That motor will do better than my fixed vane vnt 1.6 in my caddy. 😏

If the car is in good shape it's an excellent commuter car. Fairly refined yet still simple to work on. I agree that the TDI is a better engine but the AAZ isn't bad once you get the crank issue fixed.

The car is in better shape than I expected... Not sure I want to part it out.

 



Runs and drives beautifully. No rot at all. None. Interior is in great shape. This car has to be worth $2k here in the states, doesn't it??

2k sounds quite fair.  i think the engines are hard to price, aaz is hard to find in the US, but at the same time the TDI is better and available here, but if you are just looking to upgrade your 1.6na or 1.6td, the aaz is a much easier swap that is still leaps and bounds above a 1.6, with out having to worry about sourcing a pump or anything and it nearly drops straight in, its really stuck between the price of a 1.6td and a tdi, because at some point if the price is high enough you may as well go tdi.
