91 Jetta TD. Swapped in a Non A/C bracket and the bracket that bolts to the IP bracket will not fit right. It's in the way of the timing belt cover. Non A/C bracket is more than likely from an MK1
Is the IP tin different for Non A/C cars ? Are the MK1 brackets different than MK2?
I don't want to cut or change anything. I have a trailer full of MK1/MK2 parts so if the tin is different or bracket I'd like to use the correct parts if someon can lead me in the right direction.
Anyone.........Thanks !
I don't think the mk2 had a "tin" all the ones I have seen are plastic.
You might have a 1.5 IP bracket.
What kind of alternator bracket did you try to stick to it?
You didn't have a MK2 bracket?
The cover is plastic but the engine side is metal. The bracket might be from a 1.5, but it's cast and I was assuming the 1.5 was stamped steel.
I had an mk2 a/c setup but I had a few non a/c brackets laying around that are mk1.
The bracket is fine, it's the piece that mounts to the IP tin that is causing problems
Just read a post on a different forum that said you can't bolt the bracket to the IP with these non a/c brackets. Hmmm, I really wanted to delete the a/c belt setup, but I'm kinda Leary about not mounting the IP to this bracket.
I would post an image but I don't see an option to do that
Now I'm seeing that the MK2 bracket can be used for a/c or non a/c.
Anyone know what I need to change to get rid of the a/c compressor and run 1 belt ? I'm assuming there are different pulleys for the crank, water pump, and power steering.
The alternator itself has different mounting bosses and yes, there's a different pulley. When I did mine my alternator was pretty old so I just got a new one. I went on to Partsbase and figured out the brackets and fasteners then ordered them from a dealership.

There is a MK2 non-AC alternator bracket upgrade post in the FAQs.
