Painting the pump

I was just wondering if anyone has ever painted, polished, powdercoated, or chromed the injection pump ?  It seems that all the work under the hood would be nicely set off by a well finished pump and lines.

I had my 1.9TD AAZ pump rebuilt not so long ago, I told the guy what my intentions for the car where and that I was pissed off to see the pump head was always rusted. So he said he would see what he could do.... I left him red oxide primer and High temp black paint. He painted it and made a nice job of it. Apart from that, you can polish at them as much as you want but obviously dont get water anywhere near a finished re-build as it will do serious damage if it gets inside the pump.

I was at a show once and Perkins had an engine with chrome injector bodies and hard lines on their new 6 cylinder 'quadram combustion' engine.... but surely you couldnt chrome these parts and then expect them to take the pressure of a socket or spanner without cracking.

hi temp black looks good,,,,personally,ipainted mine "cast blast" looks like fresh cast iron,,,,clean it good,,,use a small brass bristle brush,that works good in the nooks+crannies,no it aint a thomas english muffin ,,,i taped off the return springs,cause they were a nice intact green,,,,,hmmm,,,,may have to repaint it black, with maybe some pontiac blue hilights like throttle lever,pump advance cover,better matches my engine,,( my block,valve cover,pan, are poncho blue,,,,,,,,,,cylhead,intake,trans,and bolt on stuff like oil filter pad+alt brackets are semi gloss black),,,,the cast blast holds up to fuel spills pretty good,,,so does the black,,,,,isay go for it,,,something good for masking areas is tinfoil,,,molds great,,,iused it on my steering rack,wheni painted my engine compartment,,,probably could paint it on the car,,very carefully,remove lines+careful masking :wink:

DEgrease well before painitng, makes all the difference to bond... Eastwoods 'PRE' is good, spray can.
In fact Eastwoods have a whole range of engien and chassi prep paints to give almost any style of finish you want, galv, titanium, blue tint steel etc.

ive found another prep tool that works good is a propane torch,,,use it to heat a little bit,,,and watch the ooze come outof the metal pores,like a zit,,then use a prep juice,like brakecleen,paint prep or somethin,,,,,works good on absorbant cast iron,,,,,i do this before sanding etc sometimes,on a realdirty greasy part,,seemsto help adhesion,,,,,i learned this the hard way,,icleaned and painted a set of gtiwheels,,,,well as i was baking them in the oven,around 200for an hour,,icame back tosee these lilbubbles,and when i squeezed them,,oily crapcame out,,,,,needless to say it was a mess,,had tostrip and redo themetc,,,,,,,hey try this,,,take an old con.rod,,get it verry clean,,then put it in a bucket,put an inch or2 of oil in bottom of bucket,,,come back a 2-3 days,,look top of rod is "wet",,cool eh????capillary action at work,,,,,
