High performance 11mm AAZ pump to MTDI
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:31:50 pm »
Can a high performance 11mm AAZ pump be used on the AHU injectors for a DI engine without any other mods this pumps build is not in question as one of the best built it! My main concern is if it will work and be reliable I've heard many different opinions on this and looking for more advice? I've heard you have to upgrade to the TDI head or 20mm shaft what is true and what is not?

It would depend on the advance curve and fueling and how hard you run things. If it has the idi camplate I don't think it would be a good option. Technically it could run and be reliable, but it may not be what you are looking for. Might want to get the pump that the 11mm head came from and start with that.

It will be run pretty hard it's in a Toyota tacoma 4x4 conversion looking for 180hp conversion the injectors will be running DLC 1019 nozzles stage 3 and mod pilot! tiing will be set for best performance and I hope the pump can take over with the advance! I didn't built the pump it's a performance diesel build or Giles pump so can't get any parts or extras for it!

I would sell that one and buy a land rover pump with extra money you get. The aaz is a good start but without the advance more like the DI engines have I don't think it will be what you want. If you wanted to play with the advance you could but I think the easier and cheaper option would be to get a rover pump.

Or if this is a performance pump as you're indicating, contact your pump builder and ask?

The advance curve on the IDI pumps doesn't go anywhere near as far as the DI pumps for instance.  But commonly when builders create superpumps they add a lot more advance capability to their pumps, which may render that moot...  DI engines need a lot more dynamic advance to perform well since the combustion chamber only really exists when the piston is at TDC, unlike an IDI.

I'll see if a can get more info on the build I know its set for what a was asking capable of 200 hp boost pressure set at 28psi governor mod 6000 rpm at least and I definitely have a timing curve just not sure how much he build into it because of the fact that it's IDI! Should have just went M-TDI in the first place before I blew the main caps off the first engine!
