Mechanical fuel shut-off
« on: January 10, 2015, 08:21:52 am »
Is there a mechanical fuel shut-off to fit a Land Rover injector pump? I'm contemplating putting a MTDi in my Iltis. It would be nice that the only electricial needed to run is the starter. Even then I could then parking on a slope to start.

Nope, they just have the regular electric shutoff. Though if you want you can remove the plunger from it and just use the clutch to stall it whenever you want to turn it off.

The shutoff solenoid uses extremely little power, you could probably power one off a car battery for weeks if not a couple of months without running it down enough for the solenoid to close.

you might be able to make one out of the electric one. Rob the guts out of it, but as far as I know there is not a mechanical stop as already stated.

There are some Cummins based M-TDI pumps out there that DO have the shutoff btw. Karl at GoWesty was making them a year or so ago when I was looking for a pump. The Rover pump was just easier for me to get my hands on in a timely matter at that particular time.

an old tractor at the farm didnt have a working shut off solenoid so we would cut off the air flow to stall it.

couldnt you do the same thing with a cable attached to the anti-shudder valve from an ALH or PD motor?
Im over on TDIclub, PM me there if you ever wanna get ahold of me. I rarely post here, but i visit here to browse the M-TDI stuff and waste-gated turbo stuff because TDIclub is all "VNTXXXX this and Stage 3 tune that"... LOL

The 'special' lever on the LR 300tdi pump is in the same location as the shutoff lever on other pumps.  The only difference is the distance that it pushes the control lever/control collar.  I imagine one could make the necessary changes and get it to function as a shutoff.
