Nozzles

there's not much I can find on what nozzles to use - I know that bigger is likely better as you can always dial it back if needed. But what is small - I've seen stock is around .187 or so, what is moderate to large? 0.341?
I'm wanting a bit of an increase from stock - would like to hit 200 ft.lb min, with a 1Z/ahu 11mm head and a 2052 turbo. (in 99 golf-motor & tranny from passat-97)
What would you suggest is a good nozzle for this setup?

The Bosio R520 nozzles are pretty much everyone's go-to for up to around 200 HP / 300 ft-lbs. They are about a 0.260 if you are looking at say the HFLOX nozzles to compare. You're going to need to get a tune right away with your upgraded turbo so it makes sense to go with nozzles around this size at the same time.
200 ft-lbs is not a hard target to hit at all with the rest of the hardware you've mentioned. You should be able to get up around 300 ft-lbs with an 11mm pump and a GT2052.

Sounds great. Will be doing this and a few other things before temps fall too low here. Drivers door lock doesn't work either with key or remote, goto setup system for glow plugs, etc.
Thanks for the help!

This is an mTDI, right? So the 'tune' would most likely consist of doing a slight twiddle to the max fuel and idle.

Yes, it is a MTdi, it's a bit unorthodox pump, it's basically all LR parts into a AAZ housing using the 17mm shaft, instead of keeping the larger drive shaft and drive bits. It only has about 5K miles on it, but so far so good. It's a bolt on to the 1Z/AHU engine I have (passat 97')
I think these nozzles are really old, lots of km's on them and with an upgrade to the turbo, i might as well do them at the same time. I have a pressure tester, I'm thinking I might change them myself and see how it works out. If they have large pressure variation I will send them to get balanced.
So, yeah should be just fiddle with max fuel and I will lengthen the idle spring as mine is solid at about 800 or so now, would like it at 850 min. (tested with electronic rpm tester, reflective tape on crank pulley)

In that case then yep, things will be much simpler!
I'm running HFLOX Warp-7 nozzles on my build, those are a 0.275 nozzle. They are supposed to be good for about 250HP with an 11mm pump. I've been able to get things mostly smoke free as long as I don't try and give it full pedal at low RPMs.

I do have some highway driving so it will be nice to have the excess power when needed.

This might be a stupid question, but I noticed and ALH the other day just walking by it, sounded much, much quieter than my car. Is this normal for Mtdi since it's not computer controlled?
When I have new nozzles I might back it down a bit.

Not really. The 11mm plunger makes it a little more rattley, but the difference is slight. It has a lot more to do with the engine cover, dense hood pad, diaper pan, catalytic converter and VNT turbo vanes. VW did a LOT of work to make the TDI quieter.

Yup, the actual injection event is exactly the same - the pump head builds pressure and fires the injector. Only difference in the actual injection system is that the etdi will retard the timing for both noise and NOx reasons.

good to know - my Mk3 golf was a gasser so it doesn't have all the extra quieting stuff. I actually find I don't mind the sound, I think it's still quieter than my older 1.6 TD.
I'm not sure, I talked with Hyflox and he has .250 and the next size up is .280 in nozzle sizes. I guess they've discontinued the .270 or .275. I'm not sure but I think I'll go for the .280 - Hope it's not too big??

I could be off on the size - they are WARP-7s whatever that may be.
Bigger nozzles do make for a bit more noise than smaller ones for what it's worth. Part of why I got these was that they were actually available from a TDIclub member for a discount when I was buying. I was looking for something that would support 200+ HP.

I changed the turbo this weekend to a new gt2052, that has helped with a major increase in power already. Has nice smooth, steady boost from about 1800-1900 rpm. Much more power now than the 1.6 TD in my 96' has. Right around 1-2 lbs boost at 75 mph / 2600 rpm.
I'll be getting the .280 nozzles sometime in the future. We'll see what that does.
