92 ecodiesel
« on: September 29, 2014, 01:49:23 am »
Hello I'm new to the site but have visited often over the last year. I recently purchased a 1992 ecodiesel jetta for $500 that came with a handful of parts. The p.o. had thrown in the towel after it spun a #3 rod bearing shortly after it was repaired from a timing belt failure. Extra parts included were 2 extra hydraulic cylinder heads, bnib head bolts, bnib engine gasket set, bnib timing belt and tensioner roller, bnib fuel filter, bnib front brake pads.
Ive been a vw enthusiast for the last 15yrs and a vw/audi technician for the last 6 years so needless to say, I'm pretty excited about this find. I ran a carfax on it thru the dealership I work at and found it spent its first 10 years at the Minot north Dakota air force base. I found it 3 miles south of the Canadian border in the panhandle of Idaho. I sent the german head off with my friend Jason at European Machine for new valve guides and to touch up the valve seats. When it returns ill be following the porting thread for better flow. Meanwhile ive got new German valves and lifters on the way and Ill be starting to remove the bottom end for the balancing of the rotating mass. Paul from the vw stealership in spokane is a parts guru to say the least and he's helping me w/any cross reference of any parts, luckily I had a NA1.6 bottom end laying around for the rod that needs replaced.
Anyway, I'll try keep this post updated with my progress. I plan on doing more performance upgrades to this so any and all suggestions are welcome.

I'm lovin it! A guy here in my town I know has a 92 with under 100k miles, I think right at 89k if I remember correctly. The paint is faded pretty bad though, but the engine and undercarriage looks brand new. He has it sitting on mk3 springs and somehow or other used mk4 5 lug stuff, and has vr6 wheels.
