wtb alternator brackets for a/c setup
« on: September 08, 2014, 09:24:53 am »
Hey I'm putting a/c back on an engine in my mk2 where they deleted it (and changed the mounting brackets to the non-a/c type) and it looks like I'm missing a few things. :(

What I need are the brackets for the alternator, I need the one on top and the bracket that goes with the tensioner/idler pulley where that mounts to the a/c compressor and the idler pulley itself.

Anything else I'm forgetting? I have the bracket that supports the a/c compressor, a compressor, and the a/c alternator.

Late 1.6 TD.

I absolutely had many problems with the Mk2 setup, but to each his own if you've already had one.  If it were me, I'd be looking for the Mk3 serp stuff as I have one on my Mk2 and MK3 - no problem like I had with the three v-belt.

I've heard a lot of complaints about slipping belts on these cars, but I think a lot of the complaints come from Canadians and that climate is a factor (cold, wet). Here in the hot and dry I haven't heard these complaints, but there aren't a lot of diesel owners to compare notes with... I was going to put the stock setup on, good pulleys, new bearings, use those "industrial" rated belts instead of the cheap automotive... and hope for the best. To run the serpentine setup I would want to cut the crank like a tdi and I'm not willing to do that now. Replacing the harmonic damper with a new(er) one also made a big difference in how much the belt would flop around. I am not running power steering.

If your not running power steering it's easier yet with serpentine.  But you're right about climate. It was cold here this morning-about 6° (42°F) and if I still had a  v-belt system, the alternator belt would have been screaming when the car first started.  You will also be using the air cond belt a lot more which will help keep everything in good condition as well as not having a ps belt will help as well.

The one on top?
I probably have all the stuff except the cast metal bracket that goes to the block,.. and oh, the one on top probably means the one holding the alternator solid on top I might not have that one. There's also one on top that mounts to the injection pump bracket, that I probabaly don't have.
I should have a spare AC adjuster bracket with the alternator adjuster pully.

Yeah, I need item 30 in the picture along with all the parts that go to the pulley which is connected to it. Also I need the top brackets 14a and 14b, but I may be able to figure something out without them.

I think I already have the right cast iron piece the compressor and alternator bolt to.

I probably have parts 21 through 30.
I'll check when I get home.
