MK3 02a transmission will not engage reverse EDIT: Solved

 02A CTN from '98 Jetta TDI.
 
I just got home from work today and when I went for reverse to back into my driveway, could move the shift lever all the way left, but not forward at all, and it feels like something solid is stopping it. Clutch is fine and forward gears are all where they're supposed to be.
 
 I removed the cables from the shift tower and the selector will go all the way down, but physically will not rotate counter-clockwise into reverse at all. I removed the shift tower, and out in the open the selector travels freely in all directions, so it seems the problem is internal the transmission.
 
 This is totally out of the blue and this trans. has worked perfectly until today. I did some searching to see if this was a common issue but could not find anything.  Any Ideas ?

How 'bout now?



 A few months ago I swapped out my 5th gear to .622 and in that process managed to lose one of the 3 syncro spring clips. With the wishful assumption that it had flown out into the garage, I just replaced the set of 3 and put everything back together. Now I know where it actually went. Amazingly no damage, and the clip shows no evidence of ingestion. I feel stupid, but if this hadn't happened who knows when I ever would of gotten around to installing that Peloquin that's been sitting on my nightstand . . .
