1.9 TD/O2A starter issues, which one do i need?
« on: August 12, 2014, 07:00:57 pm »
Having some starter issues after completing my O2A swap into my jetta.  Using a 1.9AAZ coupled to a CHA code diesel O2A tranny.  Starter is a Bosch SR0408x.  It's been just over a month since I did the swap with a brand new starter and yesterday it decided to stop working.  For the time it did work it sounded fairly sluggish to crank as opposed to my older O2O starter.  I checked my grounds and voltage and everything is in order, is it possible that I have a starter that is not strong enough?  Everywhere I've called have listed the above mentioned starter as the correct one for diesels.

Need some help sourcing out a proper starter, any input?

Thomas

I have no clue as to other starter numbers as that is the only one I found for bosch. What were the voltage drop numbers when you tested?

Pretty sure that is the same starter I used on my TDI build.  It cranks my engine great...

Voltage drop test would be the first thing to do - you need to check the voltage drop while attempting to crank, not just measure battery voltage when there is no current flowing.
